The Quai d’Orsay Paris Rotary club in Rotary International

1 – Rotary International

Rotary International is the oldest service clubs organizations in the world. Created February 23rd, 1905, Rotary International is today:

  • 100 years
  • 32,000 clubs
  • 520 Regional Districts
  • 166 countries
  • 1.2 million women and men leaders in their field and united in a humanistic spirit for educational and humanitarian actions.
  • in France: 34,000 Rotarians, 1,000 clubs and 20 districts

The International President, whose nationality changes every year, is assisted by a central committee of 17 members. Rortary International aims to cultivate the ideal of service and engage on the basis of four principles:

  • Serve the public interest
  • Observe high ethical standards in business and professions
  • Apply the ideal of service in professional life
  • Advancing international understanding

These 4 service paths flow from the 4 Questions Criterion (The Four Way Test) created in 1932 by Herbert J Taylor, who will implement the principles of Rotary Ethics in 1945. This is what he said:
« In light of what we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and create better friendships? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? »
It is good for every Rotarian to make a decision and go to bed at night having answered yes to all these questions.

Each year, the annual Rotary International Convention brings together thousands of Rotarians around the world. The next annual convention will be held in May 2016 in Seoul (South Korea), the last (June 2015) was in Sao Paolo.
